Performing and teaching with Excellence in the Bharatanatyam art form
Jessy Sitaramya is a native of Los Angeles and has been studying Bharatanatyam for over 20 years. She is a disciple of Viji Prakash and Mythili Prakash, and has had the opportunity to train under esteemed practitioners including K. Kalyanasundaram, Harikrishna Kalyanasundaram, Bragha Bessell, and Padmashree Malavika Sarukkai.
She has performed in various productions and has toured throughout the U.S., Singapore, and India. She was captain of dance troupe, UT Nritya Sangam, in Austin, Texas, where she competed at the national level and was awarded first place at 4 competitions. In March of 2024, Jessy presented a solo work, Spring, in collaboration with Seattle’s API Chaya to raise funds for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
She is currently a dancer in She's Auspicious, a production that blurs the lines between Goddess and Woman, on tour in cities including Chicago, Singapore, and London. Studying and teaching Bharatanatyam is a transcending journey for Jessy; she is in awe of the intricacies the artform holds and continues to explore its boundless nature through new avenues. She strives to use her passion for music and dance to benefit the community around her.
This full-length dance and music work features an all-female cast and blurs the lines between Goddess and Woman to explore the intricate interplay between goddess worship and the treatment of women in society. The Goddess/Woman paradox allows the unraveling of socio-cultural myths, stories, and values that are beautiful and personal, but simultaneously deeply rooted in systemic power structures.
A margam in collaboration with API Chaya, a Seattle-based nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. All proceeds donated to API Chaya.
